The Gaff

16mm 25 minutes Doc colour 1985

A rich assemblage contrasting different aspects of the fairground - the light and the shadows - the screaming girls and the rough and ready gaff lads, the men whose labour and personalities bring the pleasure machine alive. A highly visual and visceral film that sees the fair as an essential part of British culture and myth. the gaff is also a complex world divided in social and economic terms, but united against the gaze of the outsider.
